FC Bayern say goodbye to Benjamin Pavard

Benjamin Pavard has prevailed and completed his transfer from FC Bayern to Inter Milan. The deal was preceded by tough negotiations.

After much hesitation, record-breaking German champions FC Bayern have given their defender Benjamin Pavard the go-ahead to switch to top Italian club Inter Milan. The 27-year-old did not want to extend his contract in Munich, which expired in 2024, and finally submitted his change request shortly after the start of the season.

Although head coach Thomas Tuchel initially made it clear that the French would not be allowed to go until an adequate replacement had been found, Pavard was allowed to fly to Milan on Tuesday evening. Medical check-up and contract signing were due on Wednesday.

After all, FC Bayern will now receive the same sum for Pavard that was paid to VfB Stuttgart in the summer of 2019: 30 million euros. In addition, two million euros in possible bonus payments were agreed.

FC Bayern thanks Benjamin Pavard

“Merci Benji! We would like to thank Benjamin Pavard for four extremely successful years together,” said Jan-Christian Dreesen, CEO of FC Bayern, in a club statement: “Not least in our historic six-title year, he was a very An important part of the team, especially as he scored the goal of the night in the Club World Cup final.”

FC Bayern respect his “desire for a new challenge”, which is why the change was approved – without having committed a successor.

According to media reports, the favorite at FC Bayern is now the Englishman Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea. Thomas Tuchel had already worked with the 24-year-old during his time in London. The defender’s contract with the Premier League club is valid until 2028.
