Police prepared for thousands of fridge box tourists, ‘but it may have consequences for the organizer’

It came in response to a video in which two women from Knokke-Heist criticize certain tourists who walk around in shorts or who have a fridge box with them.

A man from Temse created an event on Facebook, in which he calls for people to come to Knokke-Heist this Saturday in shorts and with a fridge box. And there is a massive response, more than 40,000 people show interest. Whether they will all come remains to be seen. But the police are prepared. Steve Desmet, Police Zone Damme/Knokke-Heist: “We always start from a bit of a worst-case scenario. I think that’s good to be able to see what problems we can expect. We have already planned our capacity for next Saturday. We have also called for some necessary reinforcements.”

Also maybe people with different intentions

The police are therefore prepared, but if things go wrong, it will have consequences for the organizer. “Anyone who wants to host an event makes a request to use a piece of the public domain, this has not happened in this one. There is no request, no event that has been approved. But remember, when you make a call – admittedly harmless – that you can be held partly responsible if things go wrong. It all seems fun, but in the slipstream of such an action you can also attract a lot of other people with different intentions.”
