Queens Of The Stone Age: Josh Homme Reveals His Favorite Movies

Josh Homme reveals which movie makes him laugh and shows his romantic side.

Josh Homme, the mastermind behind Queens Of The Stone Age and Kyuss, is known for his outspoken opinions on the music world. But this time, in an interview, he spoke candidly about his favorite films and which flick always makes him laugh. As a little surprise, Homme even admitted that he has a soft spot for romantic comedy.

Josh Homme: ‘Whenever I’m down, I watch this movie’

In the podcast “Tuna On Toast With Stryker‘ Josh Homme was asked about a selection of his favorite films. Without thinking too much about it, the multi-instrumentalist revealed his favorites, and some of them might surprise even fans of the rock star.

“I love a flick called ‘The Nice Guys,'” he revealed. “Whenever I’m down, I watch ‘The Nice Guys’ with Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe. It’s just so funny and has something of Abbott and Costello in the way the characters talk to each other. The dialogue breaks my heart.” The comedy, directed by Shane Black (“Lethal Weapon”), released in 2016 and transports viewers to the 1970s, where Crowe and Gosling act as an unlikely duo have to solve a kidnapping.

Furthermore, Homme declared himself a fan of Martin Scorsese. He was particularly taken with his historical drama “Gangs of New York” with Leonardo DiCaprio and Daniel Day Lewis. Another classic among his favorites is the experimental animated film Heavy Metal. No wonder, because the adult sci-fi anthology from 1981 has some well-known rock greats like Black Sabbath or Devo on the soundtrack.

Somewhat surprisingly, however, Homme admitted his penchant for romantic comedy: “Honestly, I like good romantic comedy because it couldn’t be further from my life. I don’t care which one. I just like these fantasies about the meaning of love, and they always end with ‘happily ever after’, when in real life those things are kind of sticky.”

Josh Homme won’t have much time to watch movies right now though, as he’s touring with his Queens Of The Stone Age. In November, the gang will play in Frankfurt, Berlin and Düsseldorf one after the other. Tickets are no longer available.
