The top man of the Belgian pavilion was discredited after incidents surrounding non-compliance with the corona rules. For example, he was accused of working on the grounds of the World Expo a few weeks ago – after taking a positive corona test.
There was also criticism of the way the royal visit to the expo was organised. For example, the list of invitees was incomplete and fragmented and that list was passed on only partially or too late. Le Soir also refers to a “diplomatic incident” that has been addressed in Brussels by another country.
According to Le Soir, the management committee of Belexpo, which is responsible for Belgium’s participation in international exhibitions, will meet on Friday to appoint a new temporary commissioner-general. The interim CEO must then also close the World Expo in Dubai and afterwards also ensure participation in the Floriade World Horticultural Exhibition in April in Almere, the Netherlands.
