World Cup 2026
Football legends in stands at Brazil game
June 14, 2026 – 1:14 a.mReading time: 2 minutes

Several big names will be watching the five-time world champion’s World Cup debut in 2026 in the stadium. They all represent the last great success of the “Seleção”.
First game at the 2026 World Cup for Brazil. At the Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford near New York, the five-time world champions met Morocco on Sunday night German time – not an easy start for star coach Carlo Ancelotti’s team: The North Africans sensationally made it to the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and also want to surprise again in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
But the “Seleção” has big goals and wants to reach the final for the first time since 2002 – when Brazil won its last World Cup title to date with a 2-0 win against Germany. Will it work again after almost a quarter of a century? Ancelotti’s squad is no longer filled with as many stars as it was in Brazil’s golden days. And several greats from back then were now at the Metlife Stadium to watch their country’s start to the 2026 tournament live.
In the stands were legendary scorer Ronaldo, long-time world-class defenders Cafú and Roberto Carlos and midfield artist Kaká. All four were there in 2002 – Ronaldo even became top scorer at the tournament in Japan and South Korea with eight goals and was named the tournament’s outstanding player. He scored both goals in the final against the DFB team. Former Brazilian national goalkeeper Júlio César was also in the stadium.
In East Rutherford, the five had to watch in the first half of the game as Morocco actually dominated the early stages and deservedly took the lead. Only then did Brazil get into the game better, took more and more control in front of a predominantly Brazilian crowd and managed to equalize before the break through Vinicius Júnior.
