Ajax Amsterdam instead of RB Leipzig is the motto for the coming season for central defender Josip Sutalo. The SuperSport HNL MVP is moving from Dinamo Zagreb to the Netherlands, where he is expected to sign until 2028. On Sunday, Ajax confirmed the agreement with Dinamo for a fee of 20.5 million euros, which can be increased by 3 million with bonuses. The 23-year-old Croatian international has thus become the fifth most expensive exit from his domestic league, but he can still overtake Luka Modric (22.5 million in 2008).
At the beginning of the transfer window, Leipzig were considered the favorites to sign Sutalo, but in the end the Saxons signed other defenders: El Chadaille Bitshiabu (18) and Castello Lukeba (20). Sutalo is now Ajax’s most valuable defender after Jurrien Timber (22; Arsenal) left the club.
