Thanks to young star Can Uzun, 1. FC Nürnberg celebrated their first win of the season in the 2nd Bundesliga.
The club won 3-2 (1-0) at newcomer VfL Osnabrück, but still had to tremble after a clear lead.
The 17-year-old initiated the success in the 35th minute. Lukas Schleimer (70′) and Benjamin Goller (84′) also scored for the nine-time German champions. Christian Conteh (86th/88th) made the game exciting again.
For Uzun it was the third second division goal in his third appearance, his sixth in the fourth competitive game. There has been a lot of hustle and bustle about the youngest goalscorer in club history for weeks. You will “be vigilant,” said FCN coach Cristian Fiel on Sky before the game. You can’t “put everything on your shoulders, we don’t do that”. Uzun was substituted at the break.
Osnabrück, on the other hand, missed the hoped-for sense of achievement. Tobias Schweinsteiger’s team, also an assistant coach in Nuremberg, remains in the bottom of the table with just one point.
After the 1:3 a.e.t. in the cup against first division club Cologne, VfL was initially a little better in the game, but could not create any chances. Nuremberg needed some time, but then increasingly took over the initiative. Uzun and Goller, each with a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area, rewarded the efforts of Nuremberg, who wobbled again in the end.
