1. FC Köln “a bit sad” after defeat against BVB

Steffen Baumgart took off his hat. After the unfortunate 0:1 (0:0) at Borussia Dortmund on the first day of the Bundesliga, the coach of 1. FC Köln took off his famous flat cap and gave it to BVB striker Youssoufa Moukoko with a warm hug.

“I had this debt with him,” reported Baumgart about the unusual scene. “I wanted his shirt last season, got that too, then we wanted to swap, but it didn’t work out,” he said. “So I’ve redeemed that now.”

The Cologne team, who were defending with great concentration, didn’t get the three points that were definitely possible because they missed their good chances and were unlucky at the crucial moment. BVB goalscorer Donyell Malen (88th) hit the ball with his shin, which was the only way the improbable trajectory into the Cologne goal was created.

“We’ve implemented a lot of what we wanted. Nevertheless, we’re going home a little sad,” said Baumgart. “The team should hang their heads for five minutes – and then get started.”
