New return early: Bayern Munich – what’s next in the T question?

Status: 08/17/2023 5:59 p.m

Sven Ulreich will be in charge of FC Bayern Munich’s goal at Werder Bremen when the Bundesliga starts on Friday evening and will likely continue to do so in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Manuel Neuer could return earlier than expected. Nevertheless, FCB is still looking for a keeper.

That Sven Ulreich in the Bundesliga opener against Werder Bremen on Friday (live from 8.30 p.m. in the radio report) will be in goal for FC Bayern Munich was nothing particularly new that coach Thomas Tuchel was able to report at the press conference before the game. Much more surprising was his announcement that Manuel Neuer could start team training earlier than expected.

New-return earlier than expected

was newer At the beginning of August, a piece of metal was removed from the injured leg as planned. The procedure was positive and has now probably also favored the healing process. The prognosis for the re-entry has “significantly shortened”, said Tuchel with the good news for the start of the league. At Säbener Straße they expect “to start team training in the next few weeks”. “In the next few weeks” is of course a very flexible term that deliberately avoids a precise point in time. Ulreich will represent him between the posts for that long.

New focus in the goalkeeper search?

Nevertheless, Munich are still looking for a new goalkeeper. As the “BILD” reported, the search profile would have changed. While the last clear search was for a new representative, according to the report the focus is now on a replacement for number two. Tuchel did not want to comment on such reports. “The most important thing is that we remain competitive in this position,” replied Tuchel evasively.

The newest name also fits the plan change at Munich. According to “Sky”, FC Bayern should have asked Daniel Peretz from Maccabi Tel Aviv. The 23-year-old kept Israel’s U21 goal in the summer and saved two penalties in the game against Germany. He would probably not be a replacement for number one, but rather a backup for Sven Ulreich.

Kepa cancels and goes to Madrid

So far, FC Bayern had been looking for a keeper who would move to the Isar on loan with an option to buy. And actually those responsible had already agreed on the Spaniard Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea, but the prospect of representing the injured Thibaut Courtois at Real Madrid was more appealing than having to vacate the post in Munich before Christmas.

Munich have until September 1st to get a new keeper to Säbener Strasse. How long has the transfer market been open? The solution to the T-question remains as exciting as ever.
