Hertha binds a talent very firmly to itself!
On Monday, the Berliners extended the employment contract of offensive player Derry Scherhant (20) by two years until 2027! Just a year ago, the talent’s contract was extended to 2025…
But a lot has happened since then! The attacker made ten Bundesliga appearances last season, scored one goal and was targeted by other clubs. Even Newcastle United are said to have put out feelers at short notice.
But now Scherhant remains Berliner!
Sports director Benjamin Weber (43) on this: “Derry plays an important role in our planning. He already gained experience in the Bundesliga last season and now we trust him to take the next step in his development. With its dynamism, Derry will be a valuable option for our attacking game.”
The centre-forward, who can also be used on the wings, is also happy: “I’m happy about the trust placed in me and about continuing my path at Hertha. I’m going into the coming season highly motivated and will do everything I can to achieve my team and personal goals.”
Now a lot of Hertha goals are to follow!
After 24 goals and ten assists in 46 regional league games, Scherhant made the leap to the pros last season, where he scored his first professional goal as a joker.
curious: After his debut goal against Gladbach (4: 1), he stuffed both index fingers in his ears. A protest cheer because he had to sit on the bench at Viktoria in his youth. But the petite Scherhant has become really strong in the meantime.
In the 2nd league he now wants to become a serial offender as a goalscorer and shoot Hertha back into the Bundesliga…
