Hunters Association: “Nothing to do with the disappearance of Westhoekwolf”

He was last seen around Ruiselede. Nature associations do not rule out that the wolf was killed.

Nature association Welcome Wolf also refers to she-wolf Naya. According to the nature inspectorate, that animal was killed in Limburg. The court there did investigate the case, but eventually closed the investigation because there were no suspects and it was not yet clear whether the she-wolf had been killed on purpose.

The hunters association thinks it is unfair that links are made between hunters and the death (or disappearance) of a wolf. Geert Van den Bosch, General Director Hubertus Vereniging Vlaanderen: “In Flanders, no wolf has ever been deliberately killed by humans. In the case of she-wolf Naya, the result of the judicial investigation is very clear. The court in chambers dismissed the investigating judge at the end of March 2022 because no suspects were identified in the file. We do not yet know whether the she-wolf was killed intentionally or by whom. The investigating judge who investigated the disappearance of Naya the wolf could not demonstrate any human intervention. Closed in 2022.”
