The weather has not really been summery these past few days. A gray sky, rain and temperatures to put on a cardigan. Nevertheless, the campsites in Brabant are quite full. Omroep Brabant wondered how these camping guests are doing and our reporter took a look at Holiday Park de Flaasbloem in Chaam.
It’s a changeable Monday morning. Many camping guests have just come out of their tent or caravan with a sweater and long trousers. So is Suzanne and her daughter Lotte. “We are certainly not done yet! Yesterday we had to flee from the rain and went for a swim.”
Fortunately, they can still enjoy camping life between the showers. “We are going to do some crafts at the craft club and then have a nice lunch outside. Showers are expected for this afternoon and we will go to an indoor playground.”
“We’re going to swim in a bit, because you’re already wet anyway.”
A spot further on the campsite is Rianne with her caravan. “We’ll keep it up though. It’s just a little chilly. Nice weather would have been better, but you can go outside between the showers. The kids will go swimming anyway, they don’t mind. You’re wet.”
A fresh wind or rain shower doesn’t ruin her mood. “It’s all about making fun memories together and it’s not always better abroad. In Italy it is too hot and in Greece you have forest fires.”
“We are now completely done with it.”
Yet not everyone is happy with the Dutch weather. At the end of the camping field, Lauren van de Veen is cleaning up together with her brother and mother. “We are going to leave soon, instead of Wednesday. The sail of the tent had completely collapsed. And we are now completely done with it!”
“Of course we had some fun moments every now and then,” says Lauren. “For example, I once walked barefoot through the rain. Then in the evening I had to wash my feet completely. That was funny.”
Suzanne thinks you shouldn’t give up. “We knew in advance, so there’s no point in complaining. We bought special rain boots. You can also play football with it. And playing football in the rain is fine. And if they are happy, then so are we.”
“I can’t imagine being in Italy with 40 degrees.”
At that moment Bart Kuijpers comes running with his umbrella. He’s just glad it’s a bit cooler. “I can’t bear to think that I am now in Italy with 40 degrees. You can just put on shorts and do whatever you want. Occasionally ducking for a short shower is fine.”
