A renewed version of the movie Moomin and the Tailed Star will soon be on the big screen. The film features completely new dubbing.
Beloved Comet in Moominland -the new version of the animated film will arrive in cinemas on September 29. The film is a technically renewed version of the 1992 film, and its sound world has also been completely renewed. This also means new dubbing.
Iltalehti’s readers have given their opinion about the animation getting new dubbing. Moomin fans have generally reacted negatively to the new dubbing.
– Absolutely horrible! I’m a big Moomin fan and I’m horrified by these voice changes. The soul of the Moomin has been taken and the language impoverished!
– I do not like at all. A bit like falling into a national treasure. The sounds could have been mastered at most, but not changed.

– This is (also) not about anything other than greed: we want the movie in theaters to collect box office revenue. Changing the voice actors not to mention changing the music is an extremely stupid trick. I don’t think Tove would be very happy about something like this, commented one, referring to Tove Jansson, the creator of the Moomin characters.
Several commentators have pointed out that Tales from Moominvalley The voices of the series were also changed recently. When the broadcasting rights of the series were transferred from Yle to MTV, the episodes were re-dubbed with new actors. This raised a great uproar which is still in the minds of the people.
– Basically a bad idea. Just like the series. You’re used to the old. There is always a risk when trying to change the original, because the original is usually the best.
– A good film is being spoiled, which is sad. It was already sad enough that the original Moomins from the 1990s are not shown, they were replaced by new ones. The dubbing of the new Moomins is ridiculous and doesn’t follow the originals at all.

– At first it feels strange and annoying, but don’t you get used to them, just like episodes.
– I think the new ones are much better. When I was young, I always turned the channel when the old episodes of Yle came on. I didn’t like it at all. Kind of disgusting. I like these new ones. Glad to be able to enjoy Moomin stories with these new voices in C More. I like it.
Renovated Comet in Moominland -film will be made into both Finnish and Swedish versions. In the Finnish dubbing you can hear, for example, Jarmo Koske Hemulina and Joonathan Kettus As a Moomin. In the Swedish version, Moomin is heard Christoffer Strandberg and as Snuff Redramathat is Lasse Mellberg.
The announcement of the film states that the sound world of the animation has been renewed while respecting the original spirit. The premiere of the film was postponed due to the corona pandemic. It was supposed to premiere already in September 2020.
