The beating scandal surrounding Hertha star Marius Gersbeck (28) is getting wider and wider …
As BILD reported exclusively, the ex-ultra attacked a 22-year-old Austrian on the edge of the training camp in Zell am See in the early hours of Sunday morning. The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The police temporarily took Gersbeck into custody after the crime and interrogated him. Then the keeper was allowed to return to the team hotel.
According to BILD information, those responsible at Hertha then decided during the day: The training camp is over for Gersbeck! He was sent back to Berlin.
It is still unclear what further consequences the club will draw. A request to Hertha President Kay Bernstein remained unanswered until Sunday evening.
As BILD learned from the local police authorities, however, Gersbeck must return to Austria immediately as soon as the public prosecutor wants to conduct further interrogations about the beating incident. The investigation into assault has only just begun.
Gersbeck definitely has to travel to Austria again for a court case. A police spokesman for BILD: “Since he is the alleged perpetrator, the process will of course not be moved to Berlin, but will take place here in Salzburg.”
The Gerbeck scandal shook the entire club.
The only official statement so far was on Sunday afternoon: “We can confirm that the police are investigating one of our players, but we ask for your understanding that no further details can be given out of consideration for the ongoing investigation,” said a Hertha spokeswoman.
