The federal police stopped a regional train at the Bernau train station near Berlin because of a mentally disturbed person on board.

The 32-year-old passenger was noticed by witnesses around 11 a.m. on Friday morning and then reported to the police, said a spokeswoman for the Federal Police Directorate in Berlin. The 32-year-old was taken into custody by officers at Bernau station on the train.

The man was conspicuous because he had objects with him that could not be ruled out as dangerous, the spokeswoman said. Therefore, a defusing team from the Brandenburg State Criminal Police Office examined them – a so-called water gun was also used. The spokeswoman did not provide any further information on the potentially dangerous objects.

Train traffic was interrupted at Bernau station for about four hours until the afternoon. According to Deutsche Bahn, the S-Bahn line 2 between Zepernick and Bernau and the regional train lines RB 24 (Eberswalde Airport BER), RE 3 (Stralsund-Wittenberg) and RE66 (Stettin-Berlin) were affected.
