FC Bayern star reports after cruciate ligament surgery

Soccer national player Carolin Simon from FC Bayern has had an operation after her cruciate ligament tear.

“The first step has been taken – the surgery is over,” wrote the left-back from the German champions from Munich on Instagram, posting a photo of herself in the hospital bed and adding: “I’ll be back!!!”

Simon suffered a knee injury last Friday during the German women’s World Cup dress rehearsal against Zambia (2-3). The 30-year-old will be out for months and will consequently miss the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand (July 20th to August 20th). While Simon was posting, her DFB teammates were on the plane on their way to Down Under.

“To be honest, I have no words for the last few days and what’s coming to me,” wrote Simon, but tried not to assess the situation too negatively: “Actually, I’m physically okay, it’s more the heart , what hurts.” Sometimes she thinks “just bad luck! Now it’s time to accept, stay positive (most of the time) and then focus on rehab.”
