Champions League participants Union Berlin started the new season victorious. Coach Urs Fischer’s team won 2-0 (2-0) in the first test match against regional league club RSV Luckenwalde on Wednesday. Jordan Siebatcheu scored the early goals for the guests in the third minute and Janik Haberer in the sixth minute.
Union’s league competitor TSG Hoffenheim, on the other hand, messed up the premiere of the new season. The Kraichgauer lost 1:2 (1:2) to the second division promoted SV Elversberg. The only goal for coach Pellegrino Matarazzo’s team was Grischa Prömel after eleven minutes.
Bundesliga promoted Darmstadt 98 also suffered a defeat. The Hessians lost 0-1 (0-1) against the English second division team Norwich City in front of their home crowd.
First division newcomers 1. FC Heidenheim, on the other hand, won in South Tyrol 12:0 (5:0) against an Eisack-Rienz selection. Two goalscorers were Eren Dinkci (12th and 18th), Denis Thomalla (62nd and 87th) and Stefan Schimmer (65th and 88th).
