The man fell through the basket on Saturday when officers saw him lugging across Nieuwendijk with an inflatable palm tree under his arm around 10 p.m. He had stolen it at a beach volleyball tournament that day in Geldrop. The man confessed to the theft, after which the tree was returned to the organization.
When checking his data, the agents noticed that the man still had a long sentence open in our country. In a case involving the death of a man from Zonhoven in 2016, he was sentenced to 18 years in prison. The suspect was then handcuffed and placed in detention pending his surrender to Belgium. The procedure for his extradition to our country has now started.
