More than a hundred protesters were arrested during the police intervention against the trucker protest in the Canadian capital Ottawa in the night from Friday to Saturday. This is reported by the Canadian police, Reuters news agency reported. The demonstrators have been protesting the Canadian government’s corona measures for weeks.
Among the detainees were four of the main leaders of the protests. The police joined hundreds of officers to put an end to the demonstration, including standing in lines and with police on horseback. At least 20 vehicles were also towed. Protesters who refused to leave were sometimes pulled from cars or pushed to the ground.

The demonstration started as a complaint against a vaccination requirement for truck drivers who want to drive across the border, but grew into a wider protest against the corona measures, the Canadian government and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Truckers and hundreds of others have been standing outside the Canadian parliament building in Ottawa for weeks. Earlier this week, the government announced a nationwide emergency law to end the protests.
