More transfers announced
So far, Union Berlin has been relatively quiet on the summer transfer market. Mikkel Kaufmann was bought, Alex Kral was loaned out and Diogo Leite and Lennart Grill were signed after previous loans. Sports director Oliver Ruhnert has now announced more newcomers and talked about the rumors about Robin Gosens and Sheraldo Becker.

The German national player Gosens, as a player who was in the Champions League final, is “a personality that would certainly be very interesting for the “premier class” novices. In the “Iron” Gosens could fill the vacancy on the left side. With Jérôme Roussillon there is only one left-back in the squad. Other names that have been traded as Union candidates in the TM rumor mill are ex-Cologne player Ismail Jakobs, who is tied to AS Monaco until 2026, and free transfer Ivorian international Souleyman Doumbia. Brugge’s Maxim De Cuyper, whose working paper is valid until 2026, was recently added.

Union Berlin: Becker before farewell? “Want to make some extra money”
Becker, meanwhile, is flirting with a move, possibly to the Premier League. “He always said he wanted to go somewhere where he could make some more money. And that he thinks about it when he sees his former colleagues like Taiwo Awoniyi. They have salaries we can’t even remotely compete with. That’s why I always expect something to happen,” said Ruhnert. Kaufmann is already a replacement, and Wiesbaden’s Benedict Hollerbach is also being traded. Awoniyi is a record departure with a transfer fee of 20.5 million euros.
In general, the club will only be active on the transfer market if things “prove to be useful,” said Ruhnert. “We haven’t lost any of our starting eleven, who finished fourth. You ask yourself why do I have to change things artificially?” It’s about the balance within the squad and that takes time “to balance it out”.
