Currently, the influx of refugees from Ukraine is lower than expected in the 2023 forecast. As a result, the best efforts obligation imposed on security regions and municipalities remains unchanged for now. We therefore ask the security regions and municipalities to continue working towards 90,000 reception places after 1 July. The situation in Ukraine remains unpredictable, so we must continue to take into account an unexpected increase in the influx.
At the end of 2022, State Secretary Van der Burg of Justice and Security made a request to security regions and municipalities to realize 90,000 reception places for refugees from Ukraine as of 1 July 2023. This number of reception places is based on the forecast for the intake for 2023 that was issued at the beginning of this year.
Prognosis
Because the actual influx is lower than expected, the prognosis from earlier this year will be reviewed and we will see whether there is reason to adjust the reception task. The results will be known at the end of August and the security regions and municipalities will be informed.
Inflow
At the moment, almost 95,000 refugees from Ukraine are registered in the municipal Personal Records Database (BRP). More than 76,000 of them are staying in municipal reception centres. There is still a steady influx of refugees and it is expected that refugees from Ukraine will continue to come to the Netherlands in the coming period. Especially now that the conflict continues longer. We therefore continue to ask security regions and municipalities to continue working towards 90,000 reception places for now.
