The Andretti family is betting strongly on the Formula 1 project. And they are waiting for the deadline of 15 July 2023, the day in which the FIA will reveal the names of the teams that could enter the top automotive series starting from 2025. The outcome of the match is still all ‘not obvious, not only because the requirements that the candidates must satisfy are very high, but also and above all because the ten teams currently on the track have opposed the possibility of having to divide the revenues deriving from the prizes and from the sale of rights differently TV. For this reason, Michael Andretti already has a deal with Cadillac in his pocket which, as a major manufacturer of the US group General Motors, has made the initial candidacy much more solid.

CADILLAC WAITS FOR THE OK

Interviewed by American TV nbc, the head of sports programs for GM brands, Eric Warren, was confident: “We hope to have a positive response within the middle of the month. We spoke to the Formula One Group (the company that organizes the F1 World Championship and manages the championship rights, ed) and at this time there is a formal proceeding that we are waiting to conclude. It won’t be easy, but we plan to enter the series from the 2025 season, and we are already working hard with Michael Andretti to design and prepare the cars in time for that deadline. We don’t want to waste time and hope that the FIA will make a decision soon. As for us, we are doing our best both from a business point of view and from that of F1 growth. We believe that the presence of a brand like Cadillac is almost natural for the category”.

Thus the American brand is anticipating the possibility of landing in Formula 1, after returning to endurance competitions by marrying the American Imsa program and then also that of the Wec World Championship (which returns to the track at Monza over the weekend). Meanwhile, General Motors also collects the endorsement of FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem. “We have received more than five requests – he declared he CEO Associated Press – even if not all of them are serious or have the necessary requirements to enter the premier category of motorsport. However, under no circumstances can we deny entry to a team that meets the criteria. So imagine I can say no to someone like General Motors? It wouldn’t make sense, GM is a giant and would arrive together with Andretti. An advantage for all of us”.
