In the third grand slam tennis tournament of the season, Wimbledon, world number 1 Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek in women’s singles and Serbian athlete Novak Djokovic, world number 2 in men’s singles, reached the second round.
Wimbledon, one of the four most important tournaments of the tennis season with the Australian Open, the French Open (Roland Garros) and the US Open, started with the main table matches in London, the capital city of England.
36-year-old Djokovic, who won Wimbledon 7 times including the last 4 events, beat Argentinian Pedro Cachin 6-3, 6-3 and 7-6 in the first round and reached the second round.
In men’s singles, 4th seeded Norwegian Casper Ruud defeated French athlete Laurent Lokoli 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 and 6-3 in sets 3-1 and advanced to the next round.
Women’s Swiatek, Pegula and Garcia in round 2
Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek, the world number 1 in women’s singles, defeated her Chinese rival Lin Zhu 2-0 with 6-1 and 6-3 sets and reached the second round.
In women, 4th seeded US Jessica Pegula defeated US Lauren Davis 6-2, 6-7 and 6-3 with 2-1 sets and made her mark in the next round.
5th seeded French athlete Caroline Garcia in women’s singles beat her US rival Katie Volynets 2-0 with 6-4 and 6-3 sets and advanced to the 2nd round.
