Half century E17 is celebrated with symbolic works of art

50 years ago, cars drove on the finished E17 highway for the first time. Suddenly you could drive in one straight line from the French border in Rekkem to Ghent and Antwerp. The E17 is and remains a legendary highway.

Milestone

The 50th anniversary of the E17 is a milestone for South West Flanders. In the context of this milestone, Intercommunale Leiedal, Zuidwest, the Roads and Traffic Agency, local authorities and other partners joined forces to reflect on the past, but also on the future of the motorway.

Artistic interventions

Since Friday, the first artistic interventions can be seen on the roofs of companies along the E17. The bobcats of Maarten Schaubroeck and Dimitri Callens symbolize the agile and resilient entrepreneurship in the region.

From August 26 there will also be a free exhibition ‘The course of the highway’ in The Square and the exhibition ‘Hoog Kortrijk and Artistic interventions along the E17’ in Jan Persijnstraat.
