It has already been known in advance that something will happen between Morse and his mentor Inspector Fred Thursday such that Morse will never mention his name again. It is known because before Young Morse was shown Commissioner Morsewhich starred Elder Morse. John Thaw excelled in the role from 1987–2000. Moral dilemmas also arise. Morse learns what Thursday has been guilty of. He has stabbed a motorcycle gang member to defend his own son, who got into bad roads. Despite everything, the ideological Morse remains loyal to his mentor to the end and spares him even knowledge that would only add to the pain.
In the final scene, young Morse gets into his car. Based on the rearview mirror, a familiar looking older gentleman is driving in front of me in a red Jaguar. Over
Because of what he did – and to protect his family – Thursday has only one chance. He must disappear with his wife and son without leaving a trace. It’s the only option if the konkari police want them all to keep their lives. For the same reason, Morse must take Thursday’s secret with him to the grave.
