Bundesliga club 1. FC Köln can rely on the services of regular goalkeeper Marvin Schwäbe in the long term.
The 28-year-old has extended his contract early until June 30, 2027, the club announced on Wednesday. Schwäbe came to Cologne from the then Danish champions Bröndby IF in the summer of 2021 and ousted long-time number one Timo Horn in the course of his first season.
“Marvin is very important for our game,” said FC managing director Christian Keller: “He’s a solid support for our team on defense and an important anchor for our game structure on offense.” Schwäbe himself stated that he needed “hardly any time to think about it” for the extension: “For me everything fits together very well here.” The original contract ran until 2024.
As a youth, Schwäbe played for Eintracht Frankfurt and TSG Hoffenheim, among others. The former junior international made his professional debut in the 3rd division for VfL Osnabrück. After another loan spell at the then second division club Dynamo Dresden, the Hessian moved to Denmark in the summer of 2018, where he also prevailed.
