New information about missing Heemstedenaar: police think he travels by bicycle

The 68-year-old Heemstede resident Ben van der Weiden, who has been missing since June 13, most likely travels on a Puch brand bicycle. The police will let you know on request.

Van der Weiden left his hometown of Heemstede on June 13, around 1.30 pm. The last time he was seen was on that same day, at the Professor van der Scheerstraat in Haarlem. The photo above, in which Van der Weiden cycles past, was taken in that street.

According to the police, he may have left by bicycle towards Heemstede, but there is no trace of Van der Weiden.

A little more details are now known about that bicycle: it concerns a women’s bicycle of the Puch brand, type ‘Country Lady’. A striking detail is that the saddle of the bicycle is tilted backwards. There are panniers on the back of the bike.

Hilversum?

Earlier, the police in Hilversum sent a Burgernet report to look out for Van der Weiden. This turned out to be a precaution: Van der Weiden had previously lived in Hilversum and, according to the police, people sometimes return to places that are familiar to them when they are in a confused state. Whether Van der Weiden is in such a confused state is not clear.

The Heemstedenaar is about 1.82 meters tall and has a normal build. His skin is ‘slightly tanned’ and he is somewhat balding on top of his head. He also wore a gray / green cap, sunglasses, a dark T-shirt and possibly beige shorts and brown flip flops that day.

A striking detail is that Van der Weiden has a tattoo of The Rolling Stones on the back of his upper left arm.
