Swedish top skier Frida Karlsson tells Expressen in the interview having considered two radical plans for next season.
– Either I compete for the World Cup victory, or I don’t compete at all, Karlsson told Expressen.
In the 2023-2024 season, there are no actual competitions in skiing, so Karlsson seriously considered skipping the entire season in order to be in top condition during the competition years.
– I already told my coach For Per Nilssonthat I don’t compete at all, Karlsson says.
Karlsson’s intention was to focus the entire upcoming winter season on training. According to the skier, his development always stops during the competition season, so his idea was to train all winter.
The voice of reason prevailed in the end
However, the coach made the skier compromise, and Karlsson will be seen on the ski slopes next winter as well. However, Karlsson says that the main goal of the season is to develop during the season.
Karlsson’s main competition is, among other things, the Tour de Ski, but the skier plans to miss some competitions as well. Looking back, Karlsson is satisfied that the coach was able to talk the young skier around.
– If I didn’t get to compete when everything starts in November, it would have broken me mentally.
When Karlsson was asked what his coach’s first reaction was to the proposal, the skier suspected that the coach thought it was a typical idea for him.
– In practice, it would have ended with me lying at home and grimacing because I wouldn’t be able to compete.
Karlsson is only 23 years old, but despite his young age, he has reaped success in open competitions. Karlsson has won, among other things, three World Championship bronzes, five World Championship silvers, one World Championship gold and one Olympic bronze.
