Crimes in Paradise: plot and previews of the new season

The Chief Inspector Neville Parker (Ralf Little) is a London detective, serious, professional and abiding by the rules. Much to his disappointment, he comes transferred to service at Saint Mariea remote Caribbean atoll – a former French colony, now a British overseas dependency. Richard he is the classic man from across the Channel who has always found himself at ease in the cold and greyness of the English capital. And that, at least at the beginning, he can’t stand the climate and the wild nature of the island.

After much resistance, however, the island of Saint Marie enters Neville’s heart, as well as the beautiful women who populate it. In the first episode of the twelfth season, man has to investigate the mystery related to group of astronomers who are on the island to witness a once-in-a-lifetime celestial event on the cliffs of Saint Marie. That is to observe the alignment of Jupiter and Saturn in the night sky.

All inspectors of Crimes in Paradise

He didn’t, in the past, Inspector Richard Poole (played by Ben Miller)the first to arrive on the Island to investigate the murder of a colleague and then permanently transferred to Saint Marie. Then it was the turn of theInspector Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall), landed on the island at the beginning of the third season to find the Poole’s killers, killed himself. The farewell of his wife, who leaves him while he is in Saint Marie, convinces him to stay in the Caribbean sun, where it remains until the middle of season six when he returns to England to follow the woman who, known on the island where he was on vacation, had stolen his heart.

The success (and future) of the series

One of the great merits of the TV series’ longevity is its narrative scheme, or the one that sees in the center a British police detective who finds himself, often against his will, catapulted to carry out his work in a distant Caribbean atoll. Beyond the more yellowish aspects of the plot, a large part of the narration plays on the so-called “culture clash” generated by the encounter between the habits of the typical exponent of the English middle class and the lifestyle of a post-colonial society and not urbanized like the Caribbean one.

A unicum of its kind which, for some time now, has been one of the flagships of the vast BBC television production which, to the delight of the many spectators scattered around the world, reconfirmed the series through 2025 for two more seasons. And, to investigate, we will always find the good Inspector Neville and who knows what other mysteries man will have to solve.
