Ellyes Skhiri is leaving 1. FC Köln on a free transfer this summer. It is not yet clear where the central midfielder will ultimately go. A new lead leads to AC Milan in Serie A.
As the Italian portal “tuttomercatoweb.com” reports, Milan wants to lure the long-time top performer of 1. FC Köln to the fashion city.
As a result, Skhiri is waving a three-year contract with the Champions League semi-finalists of the past season with the option of another season. The 28-year-old could apparently collect around two million euros a year at AC Milan, it is said.
Skhiri is still hesitating with his future decision. In addition to AC Milan, Crystal Palace from the Premier League are also said to be interested in signing.
In recent months, Skhiri has also been linked to BVB and Eintracht Frankfurt. But the lead in terms of a change within the Bundesliga no longer seems to be really hot.
1. FC Köln react to Skhiri’s departure
The Tunisian international switched from Montpellier to 1. FC Köln in the summer of 2019 for around six million euros. Since then, Skhiri has been one of the top performers in the Rhineland. At the end of last season, 1. FC Köln finally announced that the eight would leave the club on a free transfer.
With Jacob Christensen (free transfer from FC Nordsjaelland), the traditional club have already signed a suitable successor for Skhiri.
“Jacob Christensen is on the one hand still a very young player, but on the other hand he already has the experience of more than 150 professional appearances,” said FC managing director Christian Keller about the transfer: “But not only because of that, but also because of his technical adeptness and his ability to steer a game under construction, we believe he is capable of making the leap to the Bundesliga.”
