2-0 against Inter Milan – with this result Jürgen Klopp entered the history books of the Champions League. After the triumph in the first leg of the round of 16, the former BVB coach, who was also successful with Dortmund in the “premier class”, is now one of eight coaches who have recorded 50 victories in the competition (since it was introduced in 1992). A former coach even has over 100 successes.
Klopp new in the 50s club: coach with the most Champions League victories
With Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea As of February 17, 2022 *All victories in the Champions League during the coach’s tenure are counted in the gallery – i.e. even if he was suspended from a game or absent due to illness.
Klopp, meanwhile, was not allowed to follow all wins on the sidelines. Once (a 2-1 draw at Arsenal with BVB in 2013) the former Mainzer missed a game and was suspended. Klopp doesn’t have time to enjoy himself after his anniversary. It goes on and on. The Reds are still represented in four competitions. After Saturday’s league game against Norwich City, there will be a duel in the League Cup final on February 27 with Thomas Tuchel’s coached Champions League winners Chelsea.
Tuchel, Klopp’s successor at BVB, can also be seen in the ranking of the winning coaches. Now at Chelsea FC he can continue to collect successes in the elite league. With 30 wins already – also from his time at PSG – he is only just behind Zinedine Zidane, who is currently without a club and FIFA world coach Tuchel may already see a win in the coming week. Man United legend Sir Alex Ferguson is enthroned at the top with 105 wins, which should not be more.
