FC Schalke 04 | Surprise: Moritz Jenz stays in the Bundesliga!

That comes as a surprise: After his departure from FC Schalke 04, central defender Moritz Jenz will remain in the Bundesliga. On Friday, VfL Wolfsburg announced the 24-year-old’s signing.

Jenz received a long-term contract with the Lower Saxony until 2027. Born in Berlin, he switched to the Wolves from the French first division club FC Lorient.

“Moritz is a robust and strong defender, who is also characterized by enormous speed and a safe passing game. Despite his young age, he has already gone through a number of clubs and also has international experience,” said VfL sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz, counting the advantages of the defensive specialist on.

After his loan to FC Schalke in January, Jenz made a decisive contribution to the Royal Blues catching up at the bottom of the table, and those responsible would have liked to keep him.

In the event of relegation, the Gelsenkircheners could have taken a purchase option, which, according to media reports, would have amounted to around four million euros. But after eleven league appearances, in which Schalke kept five clean sheets, the time together ended.

Schalke departure Jenz is looking forward to “the perfect environment”

In Wolfsburg, Jenz now wants to leave his mark on the higher ranks of the German House of Lords. After the Swiss Cédric Zesiger, he is already the second new signing for central defence.

“I’m really looking forward to this new challenge. VfL Wolfsburg is a very ambitious club that wants to play internationally. It’s the perfect environment for me to develop further. I’m a player who puts my heart and passion on the pitch and gives everything for his team and colors,” announced Jenz.

As usual, it was agreed not to disclose the amount of the fee.
