Run as fast as they can. That is what more than a thousand children did on Sunday 16 April during the Unicef Children’s Run. They ran fanatically around the perk in front of the town hall. A regular part of Cascade Run Day. Students and employees of RSG Wolfsbos also ran the Cascade Run for Unicef that day.
In recent weeks, the children have returned their sponsor envelopes to the schools. This week, the proceeds of this event for Unicef were announced by the Regional Committee of Unicef in Hoogeveen.
“A total of 29,896 euros was collected for Unicef on Sunday, April 16, a fantastic amount that we are very happy with.” The volunteers of Unicef Hoogeveen think it’s great that the proceeds are so high again this year. “This puts us almost back at the same level as before the corona crisis. It is so great that the enthusiasm for the Unicefloop is completely back and that primary schools and sponsors in Hoogeveen and the surrounding area want to contribute to the work of Unicef in this way.”
From plastic waste to education
The proceeds of the sponsored walk are again intended for making building blocks from plastic waste in Ivory Coast. School classrooms are built from these plastic building blocks. This gives many children the opportunity to go to school. Collecting plastic waste is a source of income for many women. And the amount of plastic waste lying around is reduced. So this project not only helps children, but the entire community is better off.
Largest UNICEF run through Cascaderun collaboration
The organization of the Unicefloop in Hoogeveen, which is the largest Unicefloop in the Netherlands, is made possible by the Hoogeveense Cascaderun.
Thanks to the collaboration with the Cascaderun, we manage to raise so much money for Unicef with this sponsored run. “The proceeds go entirely to children in need and that is great,” said the volunteers of UNICEF Hoogeveen.
