100 m Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs (Italy) is again slowed down by back problems.
The 28-year-old, who only started the outdoor season at the Diamond League meeting in Paris last Friday after cancellations in Rabat and Florence, canceled his participation in the European Athletics Team Championships in Poland at the end of June on Tuesday.
As announced by Italy’s athletics federation, Jacobs “will take additional time for treatment and specific training until the problem is fully resolved”.
The surprise Olympic champion in Tokyo 2021 has had sciatica for months, in Paris he ran 10.21 seconds, which is indisputable for his standards. His best time is 9.80 seconds.
Also at the World Championships in Eugene last July Jacobs did not appear in the semi-finals due to injury, his US rival Fred Kerley won the title. This year the World Championships will be held in Budapest from August 19th to 27th.
