Hansi Flick wants to stick to his new tactics despite the failed experiment with a triple chain and double leadership. “We have a plan as far as the whole thing is concerned, we will continue to do it,” said the national coach after the 3: 3 (1: 2) in the 1000th international match against Ukraine.
Flick stopped his system test after a good hour and switched to a 4-3-3. “I don’t think we’re going to overwhelm the team,” he emphasized, however: “We still need a different system. That didn’t work out in various situations today, and we also made a few mistakes individually that we shouldn’t make.”
However, the 58-year-old added that he and his team would work on the “automatisms that games and training need – and clearly address and train things that we didn’t do well”. He had “started a process, so we have to stop these mistakes in the coming games and defend them more uncompromisingly.”
Goalkeeper Kevin Trapp said about this debate on ZDF: “We shouldn’t complain about the system now. We tried it, we wanted to try it out to be more variable. In the end we’ll see what works better for us. But now over Talking about the system after the game is a bit too much.”
