On Monday evening (6:00 p.m.) the German national soccer team will be playing their 1,000th international match since the game premiered 115 years ago. In Bremen, the selection of Ukraine is a guest. Here the international match of the DFB is shown live on TV and stream.
The start of the DFB squad’s international treble: before the national team coaches play friendlies against Poland (Friday, June 16) and Colombia (Tuesday, June 20), the German national team welcomes the Ukrainian squad to a charity match.
Flick is counting on the returnees Antonio Rüdiger from Real Madrid, Champions League winner Ilkay Gündogan and Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sané as well as BVB star Julian Brandt and Inter Milan’s Robin Gosens, who were not in the squad for the previous international matches in March. The national coach does without some big names like Niklas Süle, the ailing Serge Gnabry, Thomas Müller and Mario Götze.
For Germany it is the ninth international match against Ukraine. So far there have been five wins and three draws. The highest victory was the 4:1 in the 2001 relegation game in Dortmund, with which the DFB selection was able to secure a ticket to the World Cup finals in Japan and South Korea. The team manager of the national team at the time was today’s DFB sporting director, Rudi Völler.
The last meeting was in November 2020 in Leipzig. In the Nations League there was a 3-1 win after goals from Leroy Sané and the twice successful Timo Werner.
For Hansi Flick it is the 22nd game as national coach, the record so far has been mixed: The 58-year-old has recorded twelve wins, six draws and three defeats, the last at the end of March in a 2-3 win against Belgium in Cologne. Flick was unable to match his national coaching start record of eight wins in a row.
