Final hero Rodri from the new Champions League winners Manchester City has been named player of the season. The decision of the technical observers was announced by the European football union UEFA on Sunday.
The 26-year-old Spaniard shot the English champions and FA Cup winners in the final in Istanbul in the 68th minute to make it 1-0 (0-0) against Inter Milan. Rodri missed just one premier game of the season and scored twice. In the quarter-final first leg against Bayern Munich (3-0), the midfielder scored 1-0.
“It’s a dream. This moment will never come again,” said Rodri after the final whistle: “All these fans have been waiting for it, I don’t know how many years. They deserve it, we deserve it.”
