The first regional heat wave of the year is a fact, Weeronline reports. The scoop is for the weather station Woensdrecht, where it was 30.1 degrees at 13:10. This fulfills the definition of a heat wave.
For a heat wave, it must be 25 degrees or more five days in a row, and of those it must be 30 degrees or more on three days. Wednesday was already a summer day with more than 25 degrees in Woensdrecht. Friday it was over 30 degrees. That was also the first regional tropical day of the year. It then also became warmer than 30 degrees on Saturday and Sunday.
Five days 25 degrees or warmer
According to Weeronline, there will be a heat wave in more places on Monday. At a number of stations, a fifth day with 25 degrees must still be achieved, other places still need a tropical 30 degrees to meet the conditions for a heat wave. The chance that it will come to an official heat wave (in De Bilt) is not that great, because it did not become tropically warm on Friday and that it will not be on Monday either.
Two heat waves last year
Last year there were two regional heat waves. The first was then only in August. Last summer there was one official heat wave in De Bilt.

The first official tropical day of the year is a fact. In De Bilt it became exactly 30 degrees at 2:20 pm, Weeronline reports.
On average, according to the climate period 1991-2020, the first official tropical day comes on July 1. “The first 30 degrees in De Bilt is therefore three weeks earlier than usual,” said the weather station.
Elsewhere in the country it is also tropically warm today and the highest temperature so far has been measured at 31.2 degrees in Gilze-Rijen and Hoek van Holland. Regionally, Friday already came to the first tropical day of the year.
