FOOTBALL – FC Emmen will play against Almere City FC in-house tonight. The assignment is as simple as it is difficult: to win by more than two goals. If that succeeds, Emmen will also be an honorary divisionist next year.
Emmen plays at home today because the KNVB gives home advantage to the highest placed team in the regular season. Since FC Emmen comes from the Eredivisie and Almere City finished third in the Kitchen Champion Division, the decisive match is on the Oude Meerdijk.
Last Wednesday, FC Emmen lost 2-0 in Almere. In the event of a draw or defeat, FC Emmen will be relegated to the ‘KKD’ after a year in the Premier League, even winning with one goal difference is not enough. Only with a victory by three goals difference or more can the party break loose on the Oude Meerdijk.
Away goals don’t count double these days. Should FC Emmen be ahead by two goals after 90 minutes, extra time will follow. So it doesn’t matter if it will be 2-0, 3-1 or 5-3. If the difference in goals remains the same in extra time, a penalty shootout will follow.
