French first division football club AS Monaco has parted ways with coach Philippe Clement with immediate effect. The club announced this on Sunday, less than 24 hours after the last matchday of Ligue 1.
The 49-year-old took over the coaching position in early 2022 and led the team to the second round of the Europa League last season. There, Monaco lost to eventual semi-finalists Bayer Leverkusen on penalties.
Bayern loan and first-choice goalkeeper Alexander Nübel had recently lost three times in a row with Monaco. As a result, the club finished sixth in the league and failed to qualify for international competition.
