Campfire in the forest in dry and hot weather? A very, very stupid idea! Two children caused a forest fire in Potsdam. They are only 10 and 13 years old.
Witnesses had observed how the children first kindled a campfire in a wooded area on the Potsdamer Auobahnzubringer Nuthestraße, which quickly got out of control. A forest ranger saw from her perch how the children threw something into the embankment, which then caught fire.
Now the children got scared and tried to run away. But police officers were able to place the underage arsonists nearby. The flames had now spread to 100 square meters of forest and meadows and threatened to expand.
Major damage could only be prevented by the rapid intervention of the fire brigade. She contained the fire quickly and extinguished the fire.
Police found several lighters among the children. They were then handed over to their parents.
