Culture lessons in Meppel return to De Plataan

Blink Art Collective, successor to the bankrupt Scala arts center in Meppel, returns to its old nest. Culture, music and dance lessons are given in cultural center De Plataan.

After Scala ceased to exist, the lessons were soon resumed by the teachers under a different flag. They could go to the school building of Stad & Esch. “They enabled us to continue our lessons by, literally and figuratively, making room for all students and teachers,” Blink writes on the Facebook page.

After the economics and mathematics lessons, the classrooms turned into rehearsal rooms for oboe and musical around half past four. However, the wish to teach in De Plataan remained and that wish has now been fulfilled. It is not completely back to the old, because the instruments and other necessities for the lessons from the Scala era are not yet available.

“The municipalities have been able to buy up almost the entire bankruptcy estate of Scala in order to preserve those resources for the region. We will not have access to them until everything is formally completed, but the fact that the items will be preserved is a huge relief to us.” said the collective.

In March, Scala went bankrupt, the arts center provided extracurricular cultural education in Southwest Drenthe and North Overijssel. After the bankruptcy, two collectives were created. Blink continued with cultural offerings in the municipalities of Meppel, Westerveld and Steenwijkerland. In Hoogeveen and De Wolden, the teachers continued under the name KunstenKorf.

In Hoogeveen, teachers are also allowed to teach at their old place on the Markt in Hoogeveen. The building where Scala taught was released by the curator last week.
