Final Four in Mannheim: Cologne hockey men again in the DM final

As of: 06/03/2023 6:46 p.m

The men from Rot-Weiss Köln are in the final of the German Field Hockey Championships for the third time in a row. The defending champion won his semi-final 2-1 (2-1) against Harvestehuder THC on Saturday (June 3rd, 2023) in Mannheim.

National player Thies Prinz scored the winning goal in the 28th minute. “I can be very proud of our corner defence, but I’m a little upset that we didn’t make it clear sooner,” said the match winner.

National player Tom Grambusch (23rd) had equalized the lead of South Africa’s Nqobile Ntuli (5th) with a penalty corner. The final opponent on Sunday (4:15 p.m.) is the winner of the second semi-final between the host Mannheimer HC and the UHC Hamburg.

Cologne women lose significantly

For women, Rot-Weiss Köln had missed their first final since 2016. There was a 1:3 (0:3) defeat against the Club an der Alster from Hamburg in the semifinals. “We hesitated a bit at the beginning and then we didn’t have that much luck in the game,” said coach Markus Lonnes. Antonia Lonnes (31st) scored the only goal at the beginning of the third quarter.

The Hamburg team had taken a 3-0 lead thanks to two Hannah Gablac (19th/25th) and national player Viktoria Huse (23rd). “The team showed great morale after the break so it’s a shame they didn’t get their reward,” said Lonnes.

The club on the Alster meets the hosts Mannheimer HC in the final on Sunday, who won the first semi-final 2-0 (1-0) against Uhlenhorster HC.
