Ostend occasionally has to close the recreational pool due to a shortage of personnel

The city takes this drastic decision because there are too few lifeguards who have to watch over the safety of the bathers. Due to the closure of the recreational pool, there are enough lifeguards for the sports pool. The choice to close on Wednesdays and Fridays has to do with the occupation. Those are the least busy days of the week.
