• “Most Exciting” event in Apple history announced via live stream
• Mixed reality headset: Apple’s miracle glasses
• Completely new user interface for Mac
If Apple’s Vice President of Global Developer Relations, Susan Prescott, has her way, this year’s WWDC developer conference will be “Apple’s biggest and most exciting event yet.” The Apple keynote will take place on June 5 at 7 p.m. (CEST) and can be followed live on YouTube or on the Apple homepage.
Apple keynote: process and innovations
Tim Cook is expected to open the two-hour event. It is expected that Apple managers like Craig Federighi, John Ternus or Eddy Cue will explain the most important changes to watchOS 10, iOS 17 and iPadOS17 as well as macOS14.
In addition to the eagerly awaited mixed reality headset, a major watchOS update and the new operating system, iOS.Apples xrOS, are to be presented. As Macwelt reports, it will contain a completely new user interface that “combines augmented and virtual realities in an immersive, interactive environment”. The main focus is rumored to be gaming, entertainment and communication and will include all-new versions of Facetime, Messages and Apple TV.
There are also rumors predicting a return of the 15-inch MacBook Air, which Apple discontinued in 2019. A high-end chip, the M2 Ultra, could also be presented – it should have up to 24 CPU cores, 76 GPU cores and 192 GB of RAM, as Macwelt writes. The announcement that the Mac Pro will in future be operated with Apple silicon instead of Intel chips is also on the experts’ list.
“One More Thing”: Apple’s miracle glasses
Arguably the most anticipated product announcement is the mixed reality headset. In an interview with GQ, Tim Cook discussed the advantages of augmented reality and virtual reality – from which observers can see that the headset will be presented soon. The Apple boss has so far neither denied nor announced the product launch to journalists. According to t3n, Cook is said to have said about the completion of the miracle glasses: “Anyone who dares to innovate will encounter skeptics”. This could indicate that the glasses, which are intended to combine VR and AR, could be presented despite rumors surrounding internal skepticism about a too early release date. At least for the time being, the headset with a proud price of around 3,000 US dollars will probably not be suitable for the general market.
According to t3n, the first testers were overwhelmed: “The leap that Apple has made since [Ende letzten Jahres] made is gigantic. I was so skeptical; now I’m blown away in a ‘take my money’ manner, according to one Apple fan following the product test. Whether the event can meet the high expectations will be seen on Monday evening.
