Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is back as a decision-maker at Bayern Munich. Together with his long-time comrade-in-arms Uli Hoeneß, the 67-year-old should lead the German record champions back to calm waters. According to a new media report, Hasan Salihamidzic had to go.
As “Sport1” reports, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge insisted that FC Bayern separate from Hasan Salihamidzic. Uli Hoeneß was long considered a great supporter of the sports board, but now he is said to have been willing to compromise in order to convince Rummenigge to join the Munich supervisory board.
According to the TV station, Salihamidzic has been “down through” at Rummenigge since his argument with ex-Bayern coach Hansi Flick in spring 2021. The former CEO, who handed over his business to Oliver Kahn in the summer of 2021, allegedly let it be known in a few conversations last April that he would only join the Bayern supervisory board if Salihamidzic left.
Uli Hoeneß recently surprisingly explained in the “kicker” that the separation from Hasan Salihamidzic would ultimately have been met with maximum success and that it had therefore been discussed for a long time. “We would have acted like that with three titles, the decision had to be made that way,” said the Bayern patron shortly after winning the German championship.
Rummenigge will again be jointly responsible for FC Bayern transfers
In order to remove “Brazzo” from his post, the FC Bayern supervisory board had an unscheduled meeting before the season finale on the last Bundesliga matchday. Both Salihamidzic and Kahn were informed of the dismissal two days before the game at 1. FC Köln. The message finally leaked out on the day of the game itself, and shortly after the final whistle the record champions confirmed the explosive separation.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge now takes a seat alongside Uli Hoeneß on FC Bayern’s supervisory board, while Jan-Christian Dreesen has been promoted to chairman of the board. It is still unclear who will take over from Hasan Salihamidzic as sports director.
What is certain is that Rummenigge, whose “expertise” and “international network” were explicitly highlighted by FC Bayern when the announcement was made, will play a key role in planning the squad for the new season.
