Germany sends B teams to the Summer World Cup

The German Biathlon Association will not send its top athletes to the Summer World Championships in Brezno-Oserblie, Slovakia. Instead, biathletes from the second row are allowed to prove themselves.

For many biathletes, the Summer World Championships (22nd to 27th August) are one of the highlights of their preparation. The ski hunters fight for medals on roller skis. Last year’s Summer World Championships in Rohpolding were already very popular. Now the head coaches of the men’s and women’s national teams have given the first clues as to who will start for Germany this year.

“We have six starting places, at least four of which we will fill with athletes from the B squad,” announced the new men’s head coach Uros Velepec to “chiemgau24”: “But we reserve the right to nominate two athletes from the A squad to send WM.”

Kristian Mehringer, coach of the women’s selection of the DSV, will rely entirely on the second suit: “The B team will start with us, maybe we’ll even take one or the other junior with us.” Because: “With the senior team we are at the altitude training camp in France at the moment.”

German championships take place in Rohpolding

Shortly after the Summer World Championships in Slovakia, the next highlights are the German Championships (September 8th to 10th). The competitions will be held this year in the Chiemgau Arena in Rohpolding. German athletes are allowed to take part, and biathletes from abroad are also invited.

In 2022, the Thuringia Arena in Oberhof was chosen as the venue. In the men’s race, Philipp Horn won both the sprint and the individual, while Roman Rees won the pursuit. Sophia Schneider, who in turn won the sprint and the individual, dominated the women’s category. Denise Herrmann-Wick won the pursuer.

Another competition where the German biathlon stars will be fighting for placements this summer is the Blink Festival in Norway (2-5 August).
