Emmen is left with 25 million euros, but remains cautious about major new investments

Despite the prospect of the ‘ravine’ (the years 2026 and 2027), the Commission does come up with a number of proposals:

– New construction of sports halls
The municipality of Emmen wants to invest approximately 3.5 million euros in the construction of two gymnasiums. These are accommodations at VSO De Atlas on the Meerdijk and at the Child Center to be built in the Delftlanden district.

– Construction of a child center in Delftlanden
The district is experiencing a growth spurt. The houses have sprung up like mushrooms. The jacket is starting to pinch at the two schools. A new child center should offer solace and more space. The idea is also to add a gymnasium to the new construction plans.

Cemeteries
The pavement of fourteen municipal cemeteries will be renewed. In total, this means a cost item of almost 1.5 million euros for the municipality. The paths in the cemeteries are currently lousy. Many complaints were received by the municipality.

– Works of art
Emmen is allocating around 2.3 million euros for refurbishing the nearly 600 works of art. An investigation has been carried out into the state of maintenance. The result is that it is worse than initially assumed. Timely maintenance is vital, also to prevent safety risks.

Neptune Pool
The Neptunusbad in Klazienaveen is one of the three indoor swimming pools in Emmen. The other two, in Schoonebeek and Emmen, are new or renovated. The swimming pool in Klazienaveen is very outdated. The municipality wants to conduct an investigation into what measures are needed here. From 2024, Emmen takes into account an investment of 5 million euros.
