The relegation of Hertha BSC is certain. Coach Dardai does not yet know whether he will also be on the sidelines in the second division. Kevin-Prince Boateng is deeply saddened.
Immediately after Hertha BSC’s relegation, Pal Dardai left open whether he would also take on the role of head coach in the second division. “I can’t say today,” said the Hungarian after the 1-1 (0-0) win against VfL Bochum on the penultimate day of the game on Sky TV:
“I work at Hertha BSC – in what position, that remains to be seen.” You have to “do an analysis” and “talk things over”.
Internally, Dardai, who took over as coach for the third time at the capital club in mid-April but was unable to prevent relegation, is considered the preferred candidate for the rebuild in league two.
Emotionally, the 47-year-old went ahead: “You have to tick off what happened, you always have to look ahead.”
Kevin-Prince Boateng fights back tears
Kevin-Prince Boateng, who fought back tears in the Sky interview, was much more affected.
“I can’t realize it yet. It’s just sad, I love the club. I came here knowing that not everything would be rosy,” said the midfielder, who needs “a little time” and wants to “think” about his personal future.
Partly played “under all sow”.
But it was clear to him that after a few years of chaos, the club would have to be “completely cleaned from the bottom up”. Above all, the fans deserved a quick return to the Bundesliga, said Boateng.
During the season, the team sometimes played “under all sows”, “but they always had our backs”. Just like against Bochum. The fans are “angry, disappointed and sad – that’s completely normal,” said Boateng: “I can understand them, I’m a Hertha fan myself.”
