Before Ahti Oksanen goal offside? That’s a big question after the World Cup match between Finland and Austria.

Austria head coach Roger Bader said after the match to Iltalehte that the video referees of the match made a glaring mistake.

– The verdict at the end was bad. We know it was actually offside. That’s for sure, Bader said, disappointed but calm.

According to Bader, the match supervisor had said that the situation in which Mikko Lehtonen hit the puck on the blue line back into the offensive zone, was offside.

– I don’t want to say the name, but we heard from important people that it was offside, Bader said, adding that the members of the Austrian team themselves were not sure during the match what the truth was.

The situation was checked on video due to Austria’s challenge. The result was that the goal was allowed and with the failed challenge, Austria had to suffer a two-minute penalty.

That settled the match once and for all.

– I’m not saying that we would have won the match, but we could have taken the hat off and maybe we would have been lucky, the coach said.

The TV pictures showed a strange situation when a mysterious man in a suit was jumping behind the Austrian substitution fence near the plexiglass. According to Bader, it was the fact that he couldn’t hear the person in his background group talking through the earpiece, because there was so much noise in the hall.

Bader said about the game in general that he was satisfied with Austria’s defensive fight.

– Finland had a lot more goal chances and shots, but that’s normal. In some places we were able to stop them well in the middle area.
